Facts about IPv4 & IPv6 adresses:
- IPV4 adresses are encoded in dotted-decimal notation in 32 bits. this is 4x 8-bits encoded decimals.
- IPV6 adresses are encoded in hexadecimal notation in 128 bits. this 32x 4-bits encoded hexadecimals.
- there are theorically 2^32 Ipv4 adresses compared to 2^128 (Ipv6). therefore, there are 2^96(= 2^128-32) times ipv6 adresses available, compared to ipv4 :)
- Usually, an IPV6 local network is assigned 2^64 addresses, which is 2^32 * 2^32 !! (IPv4^2)
- Internet adresses are globally assigned by Icann
- IPv4 is defined in RFC 791 , IPv6 is defined in RFC 8200 !
